# Verifying your identity

> How contractors verify their identity so they can raise invoices and receive payouts.

Before you can raise invoices or receive payouts, you need to verify your identity. Identity verification blocks both, so this is one of the first things to complete.

## The prompt on your dashboard

If your identity is not yet verified, your contractor dashboard's **To-do** card carries a row titled **Verify your identity** with a red urgency dot, because it blocks your payouts.

Click the **Verify identity** button on that row to open the verification flow. The row only appears while your identity is unverified, and it disappears once the check has passed.

## Verifying your identity

The verification step is titled **Verify your identity**. It appears both as a standalone page (reached from the To-do row on your dashboard) and as a step inside contractor onboarding.

To verify:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Scan the QR code">
    Scan the QR code on your screen with your phone (or open the secure link that is shown next to it).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Photograph your ID">
    On your phone, photograph the front of your government photo ID.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Take a selfie">
    Take a short selfie so we can confirm it is really you.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The capture happens on your phone, and the page updates automatically once it is done. You will need a valid government photo ID (passport, national ID, or driver's license) and good lighting.

## What it fills in for you

After a successful check, Omnivoo pre-fills several details from your ID so you do not have to retype them:

* Your legal name
* Your date of birth
* Your issuing country (unless your employer has already locked the country for you)
* Your ID document details

Review these fields for accuracy before you continue.

If you refresh the page partway through, your progress is restored from the server, so you will not lose what you have already completed.
