Special Leave
Beyond standard Casual Leave, Sick Leave, and Earned Leave, Omnivoo supports additional leave types for special circumstances. These can be requested through the same leave request workflow.
Parental Leave
Maternity Leave (India)
Maternity leave in India is governed by the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 (amended 2017).
| Situation | Duration |
|---|---|
| First two children | 26 weeks (182 days) |
| Third child onwards | 12 weeks (84 days) |
| Adopting mother (child under 3 months) | 12 weeks from date of adoption |
| Commissioning mother (surrogacy) | 12 weeks from date of handover |
Omnivoo can seed a default maternity leave policy of 182 days for India-based companies. Employers can apply this from the Leave Policies page using the "India defaults" option.
Paternity Leave
While paternity leave is not mandated by a central statute for private sector employees in India, Omnivoo supports configuring paternity leave as a policy.
The default India paternity leave policy is 15 days. Employers can adjust this through the Leave Policies settings.
Requesting Parental Leave
- Go to your My Leave page.
- Click Request Leave.
- Select Parental Leave as the leave type.
- Enter your start and end dates.
- Add a reason or notes if desired.
- Submit the request.
Parental leave follows the same approval workflow as other leave types -- it is submitted as a request and must be approved by the employer.
Maternity leave is a statutory right under the Maternity Benefit Act 1961 and cannot be denied. However, the system processes it through the standard request-and-approve workflow for record-keeping purposes.
Bereavement Leave
Omnivoo supports bereavement leave as a leave type. To request bereavement leave:
- Go to your My Leave page.
- Click Request Leave.
- Select Bereavement as the leave type.
- Enter the dates and an optional reason.
- Submit the request.
The number of bereavement leave days available depends on your employer's configured leave policy. Bereavement leave follows the standard approval workflow.
Other Special Leave Types
Omnivoo also supports these leave types, which can be used depending on your employer's policy configuration:
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Jury Duty | Leave for jury service obligations |
| Military | Leave for military service or reserve duty |
| Unpaid | Leave without pay, when paid leave is exhausted or not applicable |
| Other | Any other leave type not covered above |
How Special Leave Works
All special leave types use the same request process:
- Go to My Leave > Request Leave.
- Select the appropriate leave type.
- Enter dates, half-day preference if applicable, and an optional reason.
- Submit the request.
- Your employer reviews and approves or rejects the request.
Special leave does not automatically deduct from your Casual Leave, Sick Leave, or Earned Leave balances. Each leave type tracks its own balance independently, based on the policies your employer has configured.
The availability and duration of special leave depends on the policies your employer has set up. If you do not see a particular leave type in your balance, contact your employer to have the appropriate policy assigned to your account.
For Employers: Configuring Special Leave
Employers can create policies for any of the supported leave types from the EOR > Leave Policies page:
- Click Create Policy.
- Select the leave type (e.g., Parental, Bereavement).
- Set the annual allowance, accrual type, and carry-forward rules.
- Save the policy and assign it to employees.
For India-based companies, the "Apply India Defaults" option creates default Maternity (182 days) and Paternity (15 days) parental leave policies automatically.
